Great interview that ABC News did with Bill Gates. Peter Jennings asks a lot of tough questions and it seems Bill did a good job of getting his point across. Bill Gates always does interesting articles. Here is one that I liked that he did for Playboy and then there is one from his website at the 96 UNIX Expo that I liked. I like Bills speeches and interviews because he gets down to the meat of the subject, he may throw jabs at competitors but his speeches and interviews dont focus on them completely. When Steve Jobs and Scott McNealy speak they seem to focus more on Bill Gates and Microsoft and they dont seem to focus on the topics at hand.

Neat story on News.com. Lets hope Red Hat engages customers by showing some technical advantage for Fedora core and not by preaching and demonizing a company.

Great article on Sun’s developer site about debugging a C++ program in Solaris 10. DTrace is now a Open Source project, err shared source for now, as there is now way to compile it as of yet. Lets hope someone does a port to Windows and Linux soon.

IE 7 leaves Windows 2000 users out in the cold February 15, 2005

eWeak is carrying the story as a Windows 2000 customer, I do use Windows XP as well, but as a Windows 2000 customer I would really like for someone at Microsoft to explain to me what Active Support is. My thinking, which may be flawed, is that Microsoft would provide security updates and patches through the products lifecycle until the end of mainstream support date. Is Microsoft really as committed as they say to customer satisfaction, or is their support policy as follows:

We will provide patches and updates as long as the problem is not too complex and we feel like it, otherwise you guys are out of luck or cough up the volume license fee’s for Windows XP.

I mean jesus f—ing christ the mainstream support time limit hasnt even passed yet. As I have stated to some Microsoft guys, I dont want the firewall, I dont want the security center, I dont even want the improved wireless networking. I just want a version of IE that does not get the heebie jeebies (malware) when I visit every other web page.

As a customer I have to ask myself, if I have to continue to peice together my infrastructure because my main provider has the tools yet are unwilling to allow me to utilize them, whats the point? Why should I stay?

Steven Nichols has wrote an opinion paper entitled “What Comes the Day After SCO Dies?”. He writes he has a lot of questions, so do I. First I will say I’m astonished that many are not acknowledging what would happen if SCO wins. Anyway, if SCO wins Im looking forward to Nichols opinion paper on the state of IP law and how fucked the system is. Anyway, good read if you like fiction.
