Rendezvous testing July 8, 2004

Well faithful readers I have finished my Rendezvous testing on Windows, Solaris and JDS. Solaris and JDS were a total success in picking up a Network printer. It would not allow my Solaris and JDS machines to join my wireless network which is an airport base station by the way. On Windows it allowed me to do everything, it allowed me to pick up a Rendezvous enabled printer, automatically configured my DHCP settings and allowed me to access my local FTP server. Rendezvous is really a cool tool, being a tech preview on Windows it is absolutely buggy, sometimes my mDNSResponder service would just quit. The main areas where I see this technlogy applied is a development house that utilizes primarily both Mac and Windows for now. This is what uPnP was supposed to be and I do hope Apple and Microsoft work out some deal to further development and make this Longhorn ready, possibly include it.
