According to eWeak, RMS and others are stating that the XML formats are not compatible with the GPL, fine who cares. Its compatible with OpenOffice.org and can be used in BSD licensed products as well as other OSI approved licenses. Apple can use them in Pages, Numbers, Keynot and WordPerfect can use the formats royalty free. RMS needs to quit nit-picking. One point is that you cant modify the format, but why would you modify the format? To make it incompatible with MS Office? Microsoft plans to release an imoprter and exporter available for Office 2000/XP/2003 when Office 12 is released. Office 12 will use the formats natively.
