Miko, at f-secure has blogged about the first Vista viruses that can be run through Monad aka MSH. The information is misleading in many ways. First, this would not affect only Vista since Monad runs on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Second, this is not a vulnerability. Scripting is actually a feature of Monad. Third, it takes a user to execute this code since it cannot run automatically. Finally, the shell only has as many permissions as the user running it. This type of scripting attack could also befall UNIX and Linux users as well. Microsoft still doesnt know what vessel they will deliver Monad in but in this case it seems to me that now virus writes and “security researchers” ar just trying to find something useful to bitch about.

Lee Holmes from the Monad team has also put up a blog entry
