D.C beset by software problems September 11, 2005

It seems that D.C is having some problem running their system software.  A Technology officer reports ” In my experience, the combination of an Oracle database, Windows operating system, Unix hardware and an Apache webserver is a bad combination”  seems interesting enough, though I would like to know what UNIX hardware he is referring too?  Also he states “In fact, through our research the last few days, we have found an advisory on the Apache website that states, ‘Please note that at this time, Windows support is entirely experimental and is recommended only for experienced users.’ The Apache Group does not guarantee that the software will work as documented or even at all.”  He claims they did research but if he really did research he would see that what the advisory is referring too is Apache 1.3 on Cygwin.  They didn’t get the advisory from the Apache site but rather from OpenSA’s site.  There is plenty of support available and I do suggest they hire an outside consultancy that knows what they are doing and don’t male half assed assumptions by reading halfway through a site.  Apache works very well on Windows NT – Windows Server 2003, I personally have been running it for 3 ½ years as a primary webserver with MySQL as the database engine and have had no problems on both Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003
