Ulteo Desktop: Waste of time February 1, 2008

Linux.com is reviewing the new online Linux distribution which is called Ulteo, it was started when the founder of Mandriva was actually fired.  So the author thinks its a good system, to me this and web based OS’s are a waste of time.  There is a difference between this technology and Thin client technology.  Thin client technology is great technology and a very viable approach.  So to use the Ulteo desktop you must open Firefox, sign into your desktop and open Firefox on that to surf the web.  You can use OpenOffice on the web which is neat but What the hell??!!!  I don’t get it, probably will never but I do understand the having a unified desktop for home and work.  I get that but what possible benefit would come for the home user?  Nothing at all.  If you like the approach of thin client computing go with Suns solution.  Ulteo, while a neat idea is a waste of time.
