If you want Linux cheerleading at its best look no further than Jason Brooks and eWeek. Eweek has reviews Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 and says that it is a strong contender to Windows on corporate clients, with a well-thought-out desktop environment and some innovative features.

My Thoughts; I wonder if Novell ships the press and customers different versions of SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10. While yes, a good step forward, its far from perfect. I still had numerous problems getting SLED 10 up and running. Coupled with poor hardware support, and probably very lagging hardware support in the future with their recent announcement, its very hard to find where he comes up with the ‘eWeek Labs recommendation”. The Beagle Daemon crashes constantly and this is with a very high end system with 1 gig of RAM and a 3 ghz Processor it even crashes on lower end systems and have yet to be able to figure out why. Being as I paid for the software, I used Novells support and after 2 hours they are still stumped why the Beagle Daemon crashes. The new start menu is a blatant ripoff of Vista but very poorly done. It takes up a good portion of your real estate. My keyboard, which is a Kensington keyboard in a box for the Mac, I also use it on PCs doesn’t work in SLED 10. It works in Windows, Solaris 10, FreeBSD, PC-BSD, PCLinuxOS and Xandros. My network adapter I have to get running without NDISWrapper on SLED 10, but not on the BSDs, Windows and PCLinuxOS. Yet he makes recommendations to use SLED 10. Well, the Tech Journal labs says not to implement SLED 10. The Tech Journal Labs says wait for Windows Vista or use Xandros or PCLinuxOS as your alternative desktop. If SLED 10 cant even get a keyboard to work, what does that tell you about the quality of SLED 10. Simple, it still sucks and hasnt changed much since the review I did on the Beta that I had used.
